By breathing new life into previously owned equipment, we ensure that mobility solutions are accessible to everyone, regardless of financial constraints.
Honoring Our Founder: David Heim
In 1998, David A. Heim founded Wheelchair Recycler in Marlborough, Massachusetts, recognizing the urgent need for affordable, timely access to mobility equipment. Using his expertise as a machinist and his passion for helping others, David created a nonprofit that would transform lives by recycling, refurbishing, and reclaiming used electric wheelchairs, scooters, and other medical equipment.
David was not only nationally recognized for his efforts but also deeply admired for his personal dedication to improving the lives of mobility-impaired individuals. His dream was to help as many people as possible, and his legacy lives on through our work every day. After David passed away on June 20, 2017, his vision was carried forward by his close friend and business partner, Pedro Trovo.
After David’s passing, Pedro stepped into the role of leading both Wheelchair Recycler and its sister company, Wheelchair Conversions. With the same compassion and determination as David, Pedro has kept both businesses thriving, ensuring that David’s mission to help others remains at the heart of everything we do. Under Pedro’s guidance, Wheelchair Recycler continues to empower individuals with mobility challenges, offering affordable solutions while extending the lifespan of valuable equipment.

Why We Do It
